What is ADAS Calibration?

Modern cars are packed with safety features that help you drive safely. These include things like automatic braking, lane keeping assist, and cruise control that adjusts to traffic. All these features rely on cameras and sensors - usually mounted behind your windscreen.

When your windscreen is replaced, these cameras need to be recalibrated. Think of it like resetting your car's eyes - we make sure they're looking in exactly the right direction so all your safety features work properly.

Why is it important?

Without proper calibration, your safety features might give false warnings, miss real dangers, or even fail your MOT. We make sure everything works exactly as it should.

When Do You Need ADAS Calibration?

After Windscreen Replacement

The most common reason. Any windscreen replacement on a car with ADAS needs calibration.

Dashboard Warning Lights

If you see warning lights for your safety systems, calibration might be needed.

After Wheel Alignment

Major suspension or steering work can affect camera angles and require recalibration.

After Accident Repairs

If your car's been in an accident, the cameras may have been moved or damaged.

Which Cars Need ADAS Calibration?

If your car was made after 2015, there's a good chance it has ADAS features. Here are some signs your car might need calibration:

Your car probably has ADAS if it has:

  • A camera behind the windscreen
  • Lane keeping or lane departure warnings
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Traffic sign recognition

Common makes with ADAS:

• Mercedes
• BMW
• Audi
• Volkswagen
• Ford
• Toyota
• Honda
• Nissan
• Volvo
• Tesla
• Land Rover
• And many more

Not sure if your car needs it? Just ask us when you book - we'll let you know.

How ADAS Calibration Works

1

Diagnostic Check

We connect to your car's computer to see which systems need calibrating.

2

Calibration Process

Using specialist equipment, we reset your cameras and sensors to factory settings.

3

Testing & Verification

We test everything works correctly and clear any warning lights.

How long does it take?

Most ADAS calibrations take about 60-90 minutes. We'll give you a more accurate time when you book based on your specific car.

The process needs to be done in controlled conditions, so unlike windscreen replacement, we can't usually do this at your location. You'll need to visit one of our calibration centres.

Common Questions

Can I drive my car without ADAS calibration?

While your car will still drive, your safety features won't work properly. This could be dangerous and may cause an MOT failure. We always recommend getting it done as soon as possible after windscreen replacement.

Do I need to come to you, or can you come to me?

ADAS calibration needs specialist equipment and controlled conditions, so you'll need to visit one of our calibration centres. However, if you're having your windscreen replaced with us, we can often do both at the same time.

Will my insurance cover ADAS calibration?

If you're claiming for windscreen replacement, calibration is usually included. Check with your insurer, or we can help you with the claim.

How do I know if my car needs calibration?

If you can see a camera behind your windscreen, or if your car has any of the safety features we mentioned (lane keeping, automatic braking, etc.), it will need calibration after windscreen replacement. Not sure? Just ask us when you book.

Can I wait while it's done?

Yes! Most calibrations take 60-90 minutes. You're welcome to wait in our comfortable waiting area, or we can arrange for you to drop off your car.
