What Is ADAS Calibration & Why Does It Matter?

Had your windscreen replaced recently? If your car has those clever safety features - lane assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control - you'll almost certainly need ADAS calibration. Here's why.

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Basically, it's all the smart tech in modern cars that helps keep you safe. Most of it relies on cameras and sensors mounted behind your windscreen. When your screen gets replaced - even if the fitter does a perfect job - those cameras can be ever so slightly out of position.

We're talking millimetres here, but that's enough to throw everything off. Your lane assist might think you're drifting when you're not. Your automatic braking might not spot obstacles properly. And honestly? You might not even notice until it's too late - or until your car fails its MOT.

That's where camera calibration comes in. We use manufacturer-approved equipment to reset all those cameras and sensors to factory specifications. Think of it like getting your car's eyes tested and fitted with new glasses. Everything gets aligned perfectly so your safety systems work exactly as they should.

The process takes 60-90 minutes at one of our 60+ calibration centres across the UK. We can't do it at your house (needs controlled conditions and specialist equipment), but we can usually get you booked in for the next day. Fixed price from £200+VAT - we'll tell you the exact cost for your specific car before you book.

When Do You Need ADAS Calibration?

After Windscreen Replacement

This is the big one. Any car with cameras mounted behind the windscreen will need ADAS calibration after the screen's replaced. Even though the new glass looks identical, the camera position might be out by a fraction. That's enough to mess with your safety systems.

Warning Lights on Your Dashboard

Seeing symbols for lane assist, collision warning, or other safety systems? That's your car telling you something's not right. Often, it means those systems need recalibrating. Give us a call - we can diagnose it and get it sorted.

After Accident Repairs or Wheel Alignment

Had bodywork done? Major suspension or steering repairs? Anything that could've moved the camera even slightly needs checking. Same goes for wheel alignment work - it can affect radar sensors mounted at the front of the car.

Does Your Car Have ADAS?

Most cars made after 2015 have at least some ADAS features. Here's how to tell:

Camera behind windscreen - usually near the rear-view mirror
Lane keeping assist - steers you back if you drift
Automatic emergency braking - stops the car if you don't
Adaptive cruise control - adjusts speed based on traffic
Traffic sign recognition - shows speed limits on the dash

Not sure? Just give us a call. We can tell you if your specific car needs calibration.
